If you are organising a public event in West Oxfordshire please see our:
Produced by local councils and the emergency services in Oxfordshire, the Guide provides practical advice on issues such as safety, licensing and traffic management.
If you are holding an event, you will be legally responsible for the safety of anyone attending and will need to notify the Safety Advisory Group.
You may require a licence for your event. For more information please see the Licensing Act 2003 applications and guidance page.
Organising small, private street parties or fetes is generally simple as they do not normally include activities that need a licence, such as selling alcohol or providing certain types of entertainment. However there are circumstances when you need to let us know about your plans.
Road closures
If you are organising a street party you will need to apply to us for a road closure. It is free to apply.
Serving alcohol at street parties or fetes
Sharing alcoholic drinks with your neighbours at a private party does not require a licence. However if you intend to sell alcohol you will require a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).
The TEN must be received by the Council and the Police ten working days exclusive of the event. 'Ten working days' means ten working days exclusive of the day on which the event is to start, and exclusive of the day on which the notice is given (Weekends and Bank Holidays are not working days). For example, if we receive a TEN on a Monday, the first day counted is the Tuesday.
