Car parking during the Marriotts Close development

The Marriotts Close development incorporates the Welch Way car park.

The Welch Way car park closed on Monday 14 January 2008 for development of the site to start.

The following arrangements are in place to avoid a shortfall of car parking spaces during the construction period:

  • A new 250 space long-stay car park has opened on Woodford Way.
  • The majority of the Woolgate car park has been designated for short stay use. This has improved the turnover of spaces for shoppers.
  • Abingdon and Witney College are opening their 90-space car park for retailers and businesses on Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays; thus increasing spaces for shoppers elsewhere.
  • 30 restricted (yellow line) road side parking spaces have been changed to allow parking.

In addition, long-stay car parking is available at the Artificial Turf Pitch car park on Gordon Way (pedestrian access via the Leys Park and Church Green) and at Cogges Museum Car Park (pedestrian access over Langel Common).

A leaflet called 'Your guide to parking in Witney' is available to download. Alternatively you can pick one up from one of our council reception areas or Town Centre Shops or call 01993 861000.

This extra car parking results in only a small reduction of 17 spaces in car parking on weekdays in Witney, but an overall increase of 73 spaces on Saturdays and Sundays.

Household recylcing centre
The Welch Way car park recycling centres has been re-located to the new Woodford Way car park. Improvements have been made resulting in 11 additional recylcing bins creating a much larger capacity for recycling. New facilities include tetra pack (eg fruit juice cartons) recycling bins. Householders can now bring up to nine different types of recyclable materials to the Woodford Way site, namely:

  • cardboard
  • food and drink cans/tins
  • glass
  • paper
  • plastics
  • textiles
  • tetra packs
  • clothes and shoes
  • books
