Farmers' Markets enable local food from farmers, growers or producers to be sold directly to the public. The public can, therefore, be confident in the food they are buying and ask questions about its origins.
The markets have a vibrant atmosphere and help to re-vitalise town centres, making shopping a sociable and enjoyable experience.
The Thames Valley Market Co-operative is responsible for the Farmers' Markets in West Oxfordshire. These take place in Witney, Chipping Norton, Woodstock and Charlbury. All markets run from 9am to 1pm. For dates of farmers markets in follow the link to Farmers Markets Dates.
Most stallholders come from within a 30 mile radius. Produce sold is seasonal. Examples of what can be bought includes fresh meat, fresh fish, plants, fruit and vegetables, wine and apple juice, honey and preserves, baked bread, cakes, free range eggs, homemade dressings, pottery and lcrafts.
Stallholders must comply with regulations and market guidelines. For more information email the Thames Valley Farmers Market Co-operative or call 0870 2414762.
General Markets are held in Witney (Thursday/Saturday) and Chipping Norton (Wednesday).
The markets are held in the Market Square of each respective town. They are similar in size (Witney - 29 pitches / Chipping Norton - 24 pitches).
The Council aims to have a wide variety of commodities being sold at the markets.
Pitches are available for hire at the following rates:
| Town | Permanent Traders | Casual Traders |
| Witney | £19.00 per 10' pitch | £25.80 per 10'pitch |
| Chipping Norton | £17.00 per 10' pitch | £23.70 per 10' pitch |
Please note that Market Traders are responsible for supplying their own stalls.
Due to the popularity of both markets the Council operates a 'Market Traders Waiting List'. If you would like to be included on the waiting list please contact Eileen Kenrick on 01993 861183.
