How the Safety Advisory Group Works
The Safety Advisory Group has two main functions:
- Advise the Licensing Authority (West Oxfordshire District Council) on appropriate conditions for large licensed events; and
- Advise organisers of licensed and unlicensed events on matters relating too:
- the prevention of crime and disorder
- the prevention of public nuisance
- public safety
- the protection of children from harm
The Safety Advisory Group is the first point of contact for anyone organising an event to which the public are invited.
- We ask that the event organiser(s) fills in notification form, risk assessment checklist and nominate an event safety officer. Notification forms are available from the Licensing Team:
01993 861636 or email community.services@westoxon.gov.uk
- Completed forms will be circulated to members for assessment and possible action and will be considered at the next meeting of the group, see below.
- Members of SAG provide advice and guidance on their specific areas of responsibility to the organiser and other agencies involved.
- If necessary members of SAG meet with the organiser(s)
- The SAG will keep written records of meetings and ensures actions arising are clearly documented
- In some circumstances some members of SAG will monitor events to ensure standards are maintained and or licence conditions are not breached.
The SAG normally meets between 6-8 times a year to review events.
