Policies and Strategies

The Council Plan document is currently being revised as the Council has agreed a new Vision and set of Priorities. They will set a context for the Council's work and the services we provide. Below are the revised Vision and Priorities:

Vision
Maintain and enhance West Oxfordshire as one of the best places to live, work and visit in Great Britain.

Priorities

  • Protect and enhance the environment of West Oxfordshire and maintain the district as a clean, beautiful place with low levels of crime and nuisance
  • Work in partnership to sustain vibrant, healthy and economically prosperous towns and villages with full employment
  • Support individuals and families to stay in the area by the provision of affordable housing
  • Encourage tourism, leisure and cultural opportunities for all and promote healthy living
  • Recognised as a leading council that provides efficient, value for money services

The Council Plan is intended to be a living, organic document.  Whilst some parts of the Council's work go on steadily from year to year, others change to meet new needs, opportunities and issues. The Plan is set out in a modular form; individual strategies and other parts of the Plan will be revised, added to or removed as necessary.

A Medium-Term Financial Strategy looking forward several years has been developed and also a Best Value Strategy.

The Council has adopted a District planning policy, the Local Plan, for the period up to 2011. A new planning policy preparation system, called the Local Development Framework, has now started.

All our strategies can be downloaded or ordered from Policies and Strategies section of the Publications page. Together they form part of the Council Plan (currently being revised) and provide the foundation for translating our Vision into high quality, focussed service delivery.
