Future ElectionsChipping Norton Town Council ElectionAt the election to fill a vacany on Chipping Norton Town Council held on Thursday 7 August there was a turnout of 15.80% . Graham (Misker) Birks (Independent) was elected. He polled 408 votes and Mark Walker (Labour) polled 378. The formal result is available from the Parish and Town Council Results page. Local Government ElectionsLocal Government elections usually take place on the first Thursday of May each year. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 elections are due for the District Council and Parish Councils, and in 2009 the elections will be for the Oxfordshire County Council. It is possible that the elections for the County Council in 2009 will be delayed until June, to coincide with the European Parliamentary elections - this will be known in autumn 2008. The District Council's elections are by thirds, and of the 49 seats on the Council, 16 will be up for election in each of 2010 and 2011, and 17 in 2012. The term of office for Councillors elected on these dates will be four years. See Electoral Cycle for full details of the cycle of District and Parish Council elections. Parliamentary ElectionsParliamentary elections are not held on fixed dates and can be up to five years apart. The next general election will take place not later than May 2010. European Parliamentary ElectionsWest Oxfordshire District and the Witney Constituency are part of the South East Region for European elections. The Region returns a total of 10 MEPs. European Parliamentary Elections take place every five years, next in June 2009, with polling day expected to be Thursday, 11th June 2009. The date will be confirmed in autumn 2008.
