An election to fill a vacancy on Combe Patish Council is scheduled for Thursday 18th December (7 am to 10 pm).
The period for the nomination of candidates closes at noon on Friday 21st November and more information will be available from this page then.
Local Government elections usually take place on the first Thursday of May each year. In 2010, 2011 and 2012 elections are due for the District Council and Parish Councils. In 2009 the elections will be for the Oxfordshire County Council, but the date has been delayed to coincide with the European Parliamentary elections and election day will be Thursday, 4th June.
The District Council's elections are by thirds, and of the 49 seats on the Council, 16 will be up for election in each of 2010 and 2011, and 17 in 2012. The term of office for Councillors elected on these dates will be four years. See Electoral Cycle for full details of the cycle of District and Parish Council elections.

Parliamentary elections are not held on fixed dates and can be up to five years apart. The next general election will take place not later than May 2010.
West Oxfordshire District and the Witney Constituency are part of the South East Region for European elections. The Region returns a total of 10 MEPs.
European Parliamentary Elections take place every five years, with polling day for the next being Thursday, 4th June 2009.
