The Governance of Britain

On 3 July 2007 the Prime Minister launched a green paper, The Governance of Britain, which outlined the Government's plans for the renewal of our constitution.

This Government's intention is to lead a debate to develop a British statement of values. It believes there is considerable merit in setting out the ideals and principles that bind us together as a nation and that a national debate will enable the British people to have a direct voice in the way these values are articulated.

The Government believes local authorities have an important role to play and have asked us to include information and a link to the programme on our website.
