We are committed to providing high quality services which are value for money. To achieve this it is important that we actively manage our performance.
Priorities
The priorities for the Council are set out in the Council Plan 2008 - 2011, which also specifies a number of outcomes we aim to achieve under each priority. These priorities and outcomes underpin our service planning process and we manage performance to help us achieve these priorities and outcomes.
Service Plans
Service Plans are the business plans which set out what each service proposes to do in the next year, including how the our priorities will be achieved. Service Plans for 2011/12 are currently being developed.
Performance Management
Data about the performance of services is collected in order that we can manage our performance. Senior managers and Councillors use this information to assist in making decisions about where to direct resources and action necessary to deal with poor performance. Reports are made quarterly to the various Overview and Scrutiny Committees.
We also publish an annual report which outlines the progress we have made towards achieving our priorities and outcomes set out in the Council Plan.
Annual Audit and Inspection Letter
Each year we receive an Annual Audit and Inspection Letter from the Audit Commission. The letter is issued following a review of the Council's finances and its arrangements for achieving value for money in its use of resources.
Audit of Accounts
Each year the Council's accounts are audited by our external auditors, the Audit Commission. Their findings are contained in the Annual Governance Report.
