New waste and recycling collections

New and improved waste and recycling collections are starting at the end of November 2010, including:

weekly black box recycling collections
weekly food waste recycling collections - you will receive a kitchen caddy to collect your raw and cooked waste, along with a small outside bin to transfer your waste into and put out for collection
fortnightly garden waste recycling collections - free for every household that signs up. You will have a wheelie bin to collect your garden waste. Please sign up now to receive this service
fortnightly rubbish collections - with more opportunities to recycle, your rubbish bin should fill up much less quickly

The new service will make recycling as easy as possible for you and is expected to almost double the district's current recycling rate of 34% within the first year. Food and garden waste will be recycled in addition to the items that you put out for collection in your black recycling boxes.

What happens now...
A new light grey wheelie bin for household rubbish (non-recyclables) will be delivered during the last two weeks of September. As soon as it arrives please use this bin for rubbish collections instead of your black wheelie bin.

Your existing black wheelie bin will become your garden waste bin when the new service starts in late November. Please sign up now to receive this service.

If you do not want garden waste collections, we will collect your black wheelie bin for reuse elsewhere. Please wait until your new light grey wheelie bin is delivered before contacting us to arrange removal of an unwanted bin.

Your bin collection day may change - we will contact you with more information before the service begins. Please continue as normal with your collections until that time.
