CommonsAs well as maintaining grass and shrubs in landscaped areas the Landscape service takes a leading role in their management. In 1999 a management plan for North Leigh Common was produced with aims to conserve and enhance nature conservation, restore unusual habitats and involve local people in the use and management of the common. A number of events involving the Friends of North Leigh Common have been organised and managed by the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust. These events are organised to help with the maintenance of the common. These events have proven to be very successful and further events are planned for the near future. If you would like to get involved in these events please contact 01993 861000 To further improve North Leigh Common refurbishment of the car park area and the provision of new litter and dog bins has been carried out and an interpretation board has been provided. With the success of North Leigh we have produced a management plan for Langel Common in Witney Over the past two years we have installed 3 new seating areas on the common and mown a footpath with occasional grassy clearings around the edge of the main part of the common, making it easier and more pleasant for people to walk, sit and enjoy this area. We have also installed a timber boardwalk on the footpath to Farm Mill and Oxfordshire County Council has resurfaced the footpath and cycleway that crosses through the area. We hope to continue improving the area for the enjoyment of the local people and fulfil the objectives of the management plan. If you wish to find out about common land and village greens, please contact Street Scene or phone 01993 861020. |
