Environmental Management System

The Council is committed to implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS), compliant with ISO14001:2004 standard, by April 2008.

The EMS will help the Council to manage its environmental impacts in a systematic and considered way and will allow us to monitor and measure this impact. It will also allow us to make continuous environmental improvements in all our activities and services. Essentially, it will ensure that environmental impact is a key consideration in all the Council's decisions.

In line with the Best Value process, the EMS will encourage a more efficient working environment within the Council and will further improve service delivery. With this System in place, the Council will provide an efficient service to the community whilst upholding one of the Council's main aims 'to improve and enhance the local environment'.
