Grass Maintenance

Between March and October the mowing of grass is the biggest task that the grounds service has to provide.

We currently cut:

169,000 m2 of West Oxfordshire District Council land. The Grass is cut 14 to 16 times per year.

135,000 m2 of Cottsway Housing Association Grass. This is cut 14 to 16 times per year.

196,000 m2 of Oxfordshire County Council Highway Verges, cut 10 times per year. WODC are obliged to cut the verges 5 times as part of the agency agreement but then increase that by 100%, giving the 10 cuts total.

In total this amounts to half a million square metres of grass to be cut regularly. This is the equivalent of nearly 100 football pitches to cut every fortnight.

West Oxfordshire District Council is also in the process of adopting new Public Open Spaces in the new developments in North East Witney and Carterton.
