Greystones - proposed new household recycling centreWe are proposing to develop a household recycling centre at Greystones, a former council depot on the outskirts of Chipping Norton. The proposed new centre would see an increase in the range of materials that can be recycled, compared to what is collected each week from household black recycling boxes. It would reduce travel time for residents living in the north of the district as currently they need to drive to Banbury or Stanton Harcourt to dispose of some of their recycling materials. The Centre is projected to generate the District Council an income of around £22,000 a year and pay for itself within 8 years. Consultation Public response was overwhelmingly in favour of the proposals and of the 200 people that completed questionnaires, 97.5% were in favour of having a recycling centre to the north of the district and 94% were in favour of the planning proposals for Greystones. What next Obtaining planning consent is an important step forward in the efforts being made to provide a new recycling centre for the benefit of residents in Chipping Norton and the surrounding rural area. Discussions with Chipping Norton Town Council are continuing to agree terms for the use of their land to carry out the necessary improvements to the access to the site in order that the project can go ahead. Until these discussions are concluded it is not possible to give a date when the centre is likely to open. |
