Recycling: A Resident's View

Freeland resident Ian Leigh is a dedicated recycler who tries to minimise his household waste and recycles everything he can.

He and his wife throw out less than a bag of rubbish a week. Everything else goes into recycling boxes, which are emptied weekly by the Council and recycled into a range of products.

Mr Leigh is keen to encourage others to recycle. He said: "I have a bin indoors for recyclable items, which saves me having to keep going outside to my recycling boxes. I don't really understand why some people say it's a hassle to recycle - it's easy, everyone can do it."

As well as recycling items like paper, plastic and glass, Mr Leigh's organic waste, such as peelings, goes into a compost bin. He has also signed up to the Council's Green Waste Scheme to have his garden waste collected - and recycled into compost - every fortnight.

Mr Leigh said: "Recycling has become a part of my daily routine. I'm very happy to be able to do something so simple that helps the environment."
