Sandbags

Sandbags are effective for water up to about 20cm/8" deep. When there is flooding sandbags are given out free of charge.

Requesting sandbags
During normal work hours, please telephone 01993 861000. In an emergency outside of normal working hours, telephone 01993 705056.

Disposing sandbags
Property owners /occupiers are responsible for disposing their own sandbags once the risk of flooding has subsided.

If emptied and dried the sacks can be filled again, otherwise they will rot after a period of time because of the damp sand. The sand can be dug into the garden to assist in soil drainage.

If you are handling sand or sandbags contaminated with flood water, our advice is to wear gloves and wash your hands afterwards.
