Chipping Norton and Woodstock Green Gym

What is the Green Gym Project?

Run by the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), the Green Gym Project offers communities and individuals a range of regular outdoor activities. BTCV and Oxfordshire GP Dr William Bird established the first Green Gym in 1997. There is now a growing network of over 65 Green Gym projects throughout the UK.

What kind of activities can I do?

Meeting on a fortnightly basis, activities include dry stone walling, clearing footpaths and woodland management. Strong links are being developed with the Wychwood Project. Participants will also receive practical training on health and safety as well as learning specific skills relevant to the conservation projects.

How do I get involved?

All new members are very welcome and no experience is needed to join the Group. Tools and Instruction are provided, just wear sturdy shoes, old warm clothes and come along.

Sessions run every Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and on regular Saturdays. The Chipping Norton and Woodstock Green Gym carries out activities on sites around West Oxfordshire. For a full programme of activities and more information please contact Nina Sperinck, the Project Officer on 01296 330033 or email n.sperinck@btcv.org.uk

The Spring Programme is underway with upcoming sessions on the Water Meadows in Woodstock and the William Fowler Memorial Woodland in Chipping Norton. In April 2008 the Green Gym celebrated its first birthday.
