Green travel plan

West Oxfordshire District Council's new Green Travel Plan is currently being updated and due for launch in December 2010.  Please keep an eye on this page for changing details in the near future.

To support our on-going commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment, the existing  Green Travel Plan has been implemented to promote alternative modes of transport for staff and visitors travelling to and between Council offices.

Traffic congestion in Witney is a major problem and the Council is actively involved in addressing this issue.

Initiatives of the plan include:

  • A Car-share database has been set-up to enable staff to share lifts to and from work.
  • Public Transport - Details of local bus services through the district are available at Elmfield and Woodgreen Council Offices and also via the traveline website.
  • Cycling - Staff and visitors are encouraged to cycle where possible and cycling parking is available at Council offices. Details of signed cycle routes in the district can be found on the sustrans website and on the Witney Cycle map.
  • Walking - Where practical, staff and visitors are encouraged to walk to and from, and also between, Council buildings.

Cycling in Witney

Witney cycle map
There are some excellent traffic free walking and cycling routes in Witney.  With the support of green travel organisations, the Council has produced the Witney cycle map which helps to identify these cycle tracks and link them with local facilities.
