  • Cycle and footpaths

Car travel options

Car sharing has many benefits including reducing emissions and fuel costs for your journey. Oxfordshire Car Share provides a matching service for all those who live, work and travel in and around Oxfordshire as well as longer journeys to other locations outside the county, see:

Car Clubs provide vehicles to members to pay-as-they-drive. Clubs tend to be organised on a community basis with cars being located as close to a cluster of members as possible - Sustainable Witney and Transition Eynsham are both looking for interest in their area so why not join a car club and save yourself some cash.  For more information on car clubs see the:

Public transport enquiries

For any journey by public transport, check Traveline to find out the best way from A to B.  If you are over 65 or have high support needs, you can ring the Oxfordshire Travel Advice Line on  01865 323738 or email oxtail@oxfordshire.gov.uk

Train travel

Train travel offers quick and direct access to many destinations, and is two-thirds less polluting than travelling by car.

Hanborough, Combe*, Finstock*, Charlbury, Ascott-under-Wychwood*, Shipton* and Kingham are all served by trains that go into Oxford, London Paddington and Worcester. (* One service a day both ways).

For train times visit:

Buses

Travelling by bus is half as polluting as a car - and a bus can carry as many passengers as 30 cars. It also offers a relaxing journey giving you time to read a book or listen to music.

For details of bus services in West Oxfordshire see:

Timetable text services
Get up to the minute real time departure information on your mobile. Simply text your bus stop code to 84637. Texts cost 12p per message plus your standard network rate. Please note return messages are also charged at the same rate. See Oxontime for more details.

Bus stop codes are shown at most bus stops or check with Traveline.

Rural transport

Where conventional public transport is limited or non-existent in rural areas Community Transport schemes can play an important role in filling in the gaps.

For information about starting a community transport scheme such as voluntary drivers or minibuses, or general enquiries about access to services email:

West Oxfordshire Sustainable Transport Forum

This forum aims to increase the number of people using sustainable methods of transport such as walking, cycling, public transport, car sharing, and car clubs.  They recently produced the Green Travel Map

Current projects include mapping cycle parking, and installing it in the main West Oxfordshire towns and villages, and producing a leisure cycling and walking map.

Membership is open to all environmental community groups, businesses, walking and cycling enthusiasts, Sustrans representatives, local public transport operators and relevant statutory bodies in the West Oxfordshire area.
