Green Waste Scheme

Please note: Due to high demand the District Council are unable to take new customers on to the scheme at present.

Last year the scheme was once again been a huge success and with more customers now using the service a total of 1177 tonnes of waste was composted from April to December 2007.

Why is it beneficial to join the Green Waste Scheme?
Green waste can account for a substantial percentage of the contents of our waste bins in Oxfordshire that goes into landfill sites each year. In landfill sites, green waste breaks down to form leachate, a harmful liquid that can pollute water and soil, and releases methane, a green house gas that contributes towards global warming.

The Green Waste Scheme ensures that your green waste is diverted from landfill sites and turned into a beneficial product for enriching soil.

The green-lidded wheeled bin remains the property of West Oxfordshire District Council - the charge is for the hire and emptying of the bin only for the remainder of this financial year.
Refunds will not be given if you decide you no longer wish to receive the service or are moving out of the district. Other requests for a refund will be dealt with on an individual basis.
