(Please note, due to regulation and control over the disposal of food waste, your garden waste bin cannot be used for organic kitchen waste, including fruit, salad, vegetables, tea bags, coffee grinds, egg shells, bread, or any other food stuffs, even though they might otherwise be suitable for home composting).
What is the size of the bin?
The capacity of the bin is 240 litres, with the dimensions of the bin being roughly 100cm high x 60cm wide x 75cm deep.
Collection crews are not able to collect excess garden waste in bags so you may wish to consider paying for two bins if you have a lot of green waste.
What day will you empty my bin?
Once you have signed up to the scheme, you will be sent a calendar clearly showing the collection day and dates in your area. The bin must be presented kerbside by 6am and, please note, the collection day may not correspond with your normal collection day.
Can I put green waste in bags inside the bin?
No, please put green waste directly into the bin. Bagged waste inside or to the side of the bin will not be collected.
I have assistance with my waste and recycling collections. Can you also collect my green waste from my back door?
Yes, if you need help leaving your green waste out for us to collect, please contact us and we will arrange for assistance.
Can I buy the compost made from my green waste?
Unfortunately not. The green waste is taken to a commercial composting facility. It takes roughly 12 weeks to compost - then it is sold to local businesses.
