New service - rubbish bin

Household rubbish bin

Household rubbish is emptied fortnightly (alternating with garden waste recycling collections) and taken to landfill.

If you have sack collections because you are unable to store a wheelie bin at your property your household rubbish will be collected weekly.

What to put in your household rubbish bin

  • Nappies
  • Sanitary products
  • Polystyrene
  • Cling film
  • Crisp and sweet packets
  • Dog waste / cat waste

For details of how to recycle the rest of your waste see the:

What happens to your rubbish

Collected rubbish is sent to landfill where it creates greenhouse gases responsible for global warming. It is also expensive and as more and more landfill sites become full, costs will continue to rise.

Cutting the amount of waste sent to landfill is not only good for the environment - it will reduce costs and help to keep council tax bills low.

Nappies

Disposable nappies take up a huge amount of space in your bin and at landfill. Reusable nappies are environmentally friendly and can save you money. You can also 'try before you buy'. For more information on real nappy suppliers and services visit:

If you do use disposable nappies, please try to flush solid soil down the toilet and tightly wrap the nappies into a small bundle before putting them into the bin.

If you have any further queries about the waste and recycling service please contact us via our general enquiry form or call 01993 861025.
