Recycling

Some items of waste are unavoidable or unsuitable for re-use. Please make use of our weekly recycling collection.

In West Oxfordshire, with your help, we are currently recycling or composting 33% of our waste. In 2007/08, 11000 tonnes of waste was diverted from going into landfill.

Kerbside Recycling Scheme

Two free recycling boxes are provided to all householders within West Oxfordshire. If you need any additonal or replacement boxes, these are available on request. For more information, please contact Street Scene on 01993 861020.

Find out more about what can and cannot be recycled and what happens to your recycling.

Recycling collections are weekly, the same day as the wheeled bin refuse collection. You can find the day of your weekly collection by searching on the My West Oxfordshire page. In addition, there are also many recycling banks across the District where materials can be recycled.

Yellow Pages cannot be currently collected from the kerbside. Please make use of our Yellow Pages recycling scheme during August and September each year.

Tetra Paks (liquid food and drinks containers e.g. juice cartons) also cannot be collected from the kerbside. However, these can be taken to a number of recycling banks (currently at Back Lane Carpark -Eynsham, Co-op at Carterton and Sainsbury carpark and Woodford Way carpark in Witney) or your local Waste and Recycling Centre where there are facilities to collect these for recycling.

Composting is also a form of recycling that turns garden and food waste into something useful for your garden.

Compost your garden and kitchen waste.

Book recycling: find out where you can recycle your books so that they can be enjoyed all over again by someone else!

CD Recycling learn about the recycling process for CDs and where to send old or unwanted CDs.

Paint is no longer collected at any Oxfordshire County Council Waste and Recycling Centres (including Dean and Dix Pits). However, three new RePaint outlets have opened up in Oxfordshire.

In addition to the Orinoco Scrapstore in Oxford, you may now get paint from:
the OCVA furniture store in Northway, Oxford; Berinsfiled Employment Action Group, Berinsfield and Oxford Wood Recycling, Milton Park, Abingdon / Didcot.
Please visit www.oxorinoco.org for further information and details of what types of paint are accepted.

For further information, please contact Street Scene or phone 01993 861020.
