How waste and recycling is collected

Garden waste and rubbish is collected on alternate weeks. Garden waste is taken to a site near Chipping Norton for composting and household rubbish is taken to landfill.

Recycling and food waste is collected and sorted into separate compartments at the side of the trucks. It is a big help and speeds up collections if the different recycling materials are first separated within your black boxes, but it is optional to do this. To help with sorting see our: 

Because materials are sorted by the crews they no longer go to a sorting centre. Instead they are baled up and taken directly to recycling processing companies. This reduces costs and results in cleaner, undamaged materials being sent to processing companies which also generate more income. 

Crews are unable to collect items unsuitable for recycling and will leave a sticker on your recycling box if this has happened. For information on what can go in each bin / box see our:
