Waste and recycling centres (tips)

You can take household rubbish to a waste and recycling centre provided by Oxfordshire County Council.

Disposal is free; but there is a charge for large-scale DIY items and items such as tyres cost £2.50 each.

Locations in West Oxfordshire

  • Dix Pit - Lynch Hill, Stanton Harcourt, OX29 5BB

Please note: Dean Pit closed permanently in 2011. For more information about the closure and nearest alternative waste and recycling centres see Oxfordshire County Council's website.

Opening hours

  • 8am to 5pm, seven days a week (including bank holidays, except for Christmas)
  • Thursday late night opening until 8pm, from 1 April to 30 September

Materials recycled include household batteries, car batteries, electrical and electronic equipment, plastics, soil, rubble, green waste, cardboard, paper, light bulbs, sheet glass, fluorescent tubes, glass, metals, foil, cans, engine oil, timber and textiles.

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

Anything with electrical or electronic parts, from old toasters and stereos through to washing machines, can be taken to your nearest waste and recycling centre. Here they will be reclaimed for refurbishment or recycling, reducing the amount going to landfill.

This is a free service to you as the manufacturer of the equipment will pay for its collection and treatment.

Alternatively, you can order a bulky household waste collection for which a charge will be made. To request a collection please call 01993 861025.

Van and trailer permits for council tips

Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes (when laden) are not permitted into the waste and recycling centres. A charge is made for the disposal of commercial waste.

Householders can apply for a permit to use commercial-type vehicles (such as a van or trailer with a load bed of 1.8m to 3m in length) provided they are under 3.5 tonnes and not carrying any commercial waste.

For more information and to apply for a permit:
