Reducing, reusing and recyclingUsing your black recycling box is fantastic but it's just the start of what you can do... Reducing the amount of waste we produce in the first instance is by far the best approach we can take to the problem of the heavy impact of our waste upon the environment. To help everyone discover how to reduce waste and what else you can do reduce, reuse and recycle are the three important steps you need to remember. Our waste impacts heavily on our environment, both in terms of the depletion of natural resources to produce everyday goods and in terms of the current reliance on landfill sites, and is an unsustainable part of modern living. LATEST WASTE & RECYCLING NEWS:Yellow Pages Directory Recycling Your old Yellow Pages directories can now be recycled along with the other recycling in your kerbside collection box. For more information on your Yellow Pages Directory please visit our Yellow Pages Recycling page. Paint Oxfordshire County Council's Waste and Recycling Centres are unable to accept liquid paint, as it could contaminate landfill sites, so if you can't use it up or find it a good home by giving it away you will need to harden it before disposal. You can buy a paint hardener, or add sawdust, sand or soil to the tin and leave the lid off until the paint becomes solid and dry (please pierce the dried paint before taking it to a Waste and Recycling Centre to make sure it's fully hardened). Clean and dry metal paint tins can be thrown into the scrap metal banks at any Waste and Recycling Centre, but plastic or tins with hardened paint in must be landfilled. Three RePaint outlets are now open in Oxfordshire. In addition to the Orinoco Scrapstore in Oxford, you may now get paint from: the Emmaus furniture store in Northway, Oxford; Berinsfiled Employment Action Group, Berinsfield and Oxford Wood Recycling, Milton Park, Abingdon / Didcot. **PLEASE NOTE**: There are important things which you need to consider when getting rid of old paint - please read this excellent guide - 'what to do with waste paint' courtesy of Orinoco, Oxford.
