A weekly waste and recycling kerbside collection service is provided for all households in the District. There is a wheeled bin for non-recyclable refuse and black boxes for your recycling.
Using your black recycling box is fantastic but it's just the start of what you can do...
Reducing the amount of waste we produce in the first instance is by far the best approach we can take to the problem of the heavy impact of our waste upon the environment.
To help everyone discover how to reduce waste and what else you can do reduce, reuse and recycle are the three important steps you need to remember.
We are at a critical point in time where we need to change our approach towards waste. We can no longer afford to treat waste purely as a commodity of which to dispose. Our waste impacts heavily on our environment, both in terms of the depletion of natural resources to produce everyday goods and in terms of the current reliance on landfill sites, and is an unsustainable part of modern living.
It's easy to find out when your collection days are. All you have to do is visit the My West Oxfordshire section.
You can also check for possible bank holiday collection day changes.
Yellow Pages Directory Recycling
Householders in West Oxfordshire are being urged by the District Council to recycle their old 2007/08 Yellow Pages directory when the new 2008/09 edition is delivered to their homes over the next few weeks.
And by writing their name and address on their old copy before placing it in one of the designated recycling banks, residents will be entered into a summer prize draw. One old Yellow Pages directory will be randomly selected during August and September, with the lucky winners receiving £50 each.
For more information on where you can recycle your Yellow Pages Directory please visit our Yellow Pages Recycling page.
Paint
Paint is no longer collected at any Oxfordshire County Council household waste and recycling centres (including Dean and Dix Pits). However, three new RePaint outlets have opened up in Oxfordshire.
In addition to the Orinoco Scrapstore in Oxford, you may now get paint from:
the OCVA furniture store in Northway, Oxford; Berinsfiled Employment Action Group, Berinsfield and Oxford Wood Recycling, Milton Park, Abingdon / Didcot.
Please visit www.oxorinoco.org for further information and details of what types of paint are accepted.
**PLEASE NOTE**: There are important things which you need to consider when getting rid of old paint - please read this excellent guide - 'what to do with waste paint' courtesy of Orinoco, Oxford.
