WaspsWasps can be regarded as beneficial insects. As their nests develop during the summer, the workers collect other insects, larvae and scraps of meat to feed to their own larvae. This helps control garden pests such as aphids. Also the worker wasps like feeding on fruit and nectar of flowers, which helps with the pollination of plants. However at other times they can be regarded as a pest and sometimes a threat to health. As the nest increases in size, the workers get busier and can become a nuisance especially where there is fruit or other foodstuffs in the vicinity. If you can see wasps entering a building e.g. under a roof tile, wall cavity, shed or hole in the ground for example, and they are becoming a nuisance, then telephone the Council's Pest Control Service, who will do their best to apply treatment to the nest. Wasps will only use a nest once, so there is no need to remove the nest once it has been treated. For more information phone 01993 861060 or use the online service on the right of this page. |
