Work experienceA work placement is an opportunity for students to spend a period of time outside the classroom, learning about a particular job or area of work. During their placement, students are be able to find out what skills employers look for when they're hiring someone to fill a job vacancy. They also get the chance to develop their self-confidence and communication skills. We are keen to work with young people. However, places are very popular and are limited. Some of the students who have worked with us recently include: Jacob, 14 Hugh, 15 My name is Hugh; I'm 15 and go to Henry Box School in Witney. When work experience arrived I knew I wanted to do something IT related but I had no idea what. My work experience teacher recommended the council and I knew they did a wide variety of IT work which I could learn about. However at my interview with the Council they recommended that I split my time up and visit some other departments such as the Town Centre Shop and Accountancy. It was interesting to see how the other departments used the IT facilities. All of the staff in IS were very friendly and I learnt a lot about the application of IS in work. I experienced some GIS mapping, which involves the presentation of data (fly tipping areas, for example) on maps to better visualize data and Business Objects, which is a powerful data management tool. I've had a fantastic time here and I hope I can visit again. |
