How to make a Payment to the Council

There are a number of different ways to make a Payment to the Council.

Online Payments

It's easy, quick and secure to make an online payment. You can use this method of payment for:

  • Council Tax
  • Business Rates
  • Fixed Penalty Notice charges (Parking Fines)
  • Overpayment of Housing Benefit
  • Other Invoices (Sundry Debtors)

All you need is your payment reference number (e.g. Council Tax account or an invoice number) and your payment card details. You can use your bank debit card or credit card to pay online: Visa, MasterCard, Visa Delta, Switch, Solo and Electron are all accepted.

Please note that with effect from 28th April 2008, West Oxfordshire District Council will levy an administration charge of 1.35% on all payments made using a credit card to cover bank charges.  This administration charge can be avoided by paying using a UK Debit Card.

Pay in Person

Payments for any Council service can be made at either of our Cash Offices located at the Town Centre Shop in Witney or the Guildhall in Chipping Norton.

Pay by Direct Debit

This is the easiest method of payment both for you as the customer and for the Council. It saves you the worry of remembering to pay each month, of writing a cheque, buying a stamp, posting a letter or standing in a queue at the Post Office or the Council's Cashiers office. Payment by Direct Debit is covered by a guarantee for your peace of mind.
This payment method can be used for:

  • Council tax
  • Business Rates

Please see further information on paying by Direct Debit including a downloadable form and details of the Direct Debit guarantee on our 'How to Pay your Council Tax' page.
