Frequently asked questions
Question
Work was carried out on my house some time ago without Building Regulations, what do I do?
Answer
If you, or a previous owner, have carried out work without Building Regulations consent since 11 November 1985 there is a procedure to rectify the situation. This procedure is called applying for a Regularisation Certificate. It entails putting the work right so that the situation is no worse than if an application had been made at the time of the work, and the correct procedure followed.
Any work carried out prior to this date unfortunately cannot be considered for this process, and this could be detrimental if you try to sell the property, or obtain a mortgage.
