News Centre19 Jul 2012 (archived) Residents warned of council tax offerWe are advising residents that using companies offering to help reduce council tax rates could end up costing more. Households in West Oxfordshire have been contacted by Manchester-based firm Randall and Vickers, who are offering to help lower their council tax rate on a 'no win no fee' basis. The firm offers to help people review their council tax band and, if successful in helping lower their rate, charging a fee of 25 per cent from the potential rebate plus VAT. However, we are reminding residents that they can challenge their council tax banding themselves for free by contacting the valuation office agency. Residents are also reminded that the re-evaluation of their band could result in them being placed in a higher tax band. We also recommend that anyone considering using such a service should check all contracts before committing to the scheme. To contact the Valuation Office Agency call 03000 501501 or visit www. voa.gov.uk back to what's new listing |
