Blooming success for Woodstock

Woodstock in West Oxfordshire has once again become a regional gold medal winner in the Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom competition, Small Town category.

Woodstock is also awaiting the result of the national Britain in Bloom competition which will be announced on the 6 October.

Pauline Richardson who chairs the Woodstock in Bloom committee accompanied the judges on their visit. She said, "The judges were particularly impressed by the obvious community spirit within Woodstock including the primary school's involvement, the fledgling allotments project and the community woodland, with support from WODC and the crowd who met them in front of the town hall that day.

"The horticulturalists among us will be pleased that the imaginative planting of herbaceous perennials and those giving both sustainability and all-year round colour were particularly noticed. Time and again the judges mentioned the impact of our gardens and the frontages/hanging baskets in the town centre."

Cllr David Harvey, Cabinet Member for Environment at West Oxfordshire District Council said, "Congratulations to Woodstock - the award recognises the hard work put in by the Town Council and local community to keep Woodstock looking so beautiful, clean and well-kept. The District Council's street cleansing team is pleased to have supported their efforts by regular litter picking, emptying bins and cutting the grass. Well done to everyone involved."
