Recycling reminder for small electrical goods

Waste experts from Oxfordshire County Council will be on hand at special events in September to remind people that small electrical items can now be recycled at each of the county's Waste Recycling Centres.

Staff will be available at the West Oxfordshire centres on the 13 and 20 September and will be at Dean Pitt, near Chadlington and Dix Pitt, near Stanton Harcourt respectively. They will hand out leaflets explaining that items such as clocks, games consoles and hairdryers can be brought to the recycling centres, where they go into separate containers for recycling. Large items, such as fridges and washing machines, are already accepted at the recycling centres.

Staff will be dressed in deep pink, the colour local authorities across the country use to denote electrical items at their recycling centres, and the containers will be marked with pink balloons to help residents spot them.

The leaflet gives more examples of what electrical items can be accepted at the recycling centres, as well as answering questions such as: 'What about light bulbs?' and 'Who pays for all these items to be recycled?' It also asks people to think about the environmental consequences before replacing their gadgets, by upgrading or buying a refurbished product instead.
