News Centre02 Oct 2008 (archived) Achievement Awards deadlineThe deadline for applications to the Council's Achievement Awards scheme, which helps sports and arts performers, is October 15th. Funding between £50 and £250 is available to promising sports and arts performers in the district and Higher Achievement Awards, up to £1,000, are available to those demonstrating excellence, usually at national standard, in their field. Applicants must be over 14 and be able to demonstrate their commitment and dedication to their sport or art, and show that the funding would help them to progress. Fourteen-year-old Jamie Coles, from Ledwell, who pays cricket at county level for Oxfordshire as well as for Banbury Cricket Club, received a £175 Sports Achievement Award from the Council earlier this year. He used the money towards buying a new cricket kit and said: "It helped a lot." For more details about the Achievement Awards, criteria and guidance on how to apply, see the Leisure and Tourism grants pages. Alternatively, call 01993 861080 or email the Leisure and Tourism team.
