Health walks

Healthy walks

This scheme promotes walking for better health.  It encourages anyone who takes very little exercise to take those first steps to a healthy lifestyle in an enjoyable way.  All walks are supervised by trained Walk Leaders. None of the walks should take longer than one hour.

Walking is the perfect activity for improving your health as it can:

  • Make you feel good
  • Give you more energy
  • Help you sleep better
  • Help reduce stress
  • Keep your heart 'strong'
  • Help to manage your weight

Walk Leaders

Walk Leaders plan and supervise every walk.  They motivate and encourage other walkers, ensuring that no-one gets lost or left behind.

Becoming a Walk Leader

All Walk Leaders receive free 'Walking the Way to Health' leader training.  This is a one day course emphasising the benefits of walking for health and how to ensure that this is undertaken in a safe way. For further information on becoming a walk leader please download a copy of the Walk Leaders Leaflet from the 'File downloads' section on the right of this page or telephone Leisure and Tourism on 01993 861557.
