Play areas

There are over 80 play areas in West Oxfordshire. These are mainly owned and managed by the local Parish and Town Councils who are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the facilities.

We are responsible for the adventure play area at Kilkenny Lane Country Park in Brize Norton, Marriotts Walk play area in Witney, and Waterford Lane play area in Witney.

Funding for play areas

Funding is available for the development of outdoor play areas and skate parks within the District through our Community Facilities Grant.

Big Lottery Fund

We were awarded £200,000 as part of the Big Lottery Fund Children's Play Programme.  The funding has gone towards three projects to help widen access to free outdoor play opportunities:

  • Chipping Norton Recreation Ground - provision of a multi-use games area (MUGA), shelter and additional play equipment
  • Kilkenny Lane Country Park - installation of an adventure play area
  • West Oxfordshire Play Rangers - free outdoor play sessions run by qualified playworkers
