Sport & Leisure Development
We are committed to providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to lead an active and healthy lifestyle through taking part in sport, leisure, and active recreation. We work in partnership with other agencies, voluntary groups and sports associations to increase opportunities for all.
Our work is guided by the Sport & Leisure Development Strategy 2006-2011.
Our vision
All of West Oxfordshire benefiting from being involved in sport and leisure.
Our objectives
- 1% increase each year in the number of adults doing 30 minutes physical activity 5 times a week
- 1% increase in the number of young people doing 60 minutes physical activity every day
By:
- Enabling and encouraging participation in sport & leisure
- Continuously improving the provision of opportunities, activities and facilities
Our work areas
- Managing the provision of new Council-owned leisure facilities and the further development of existing ones.
- Negotiating with developers of major housing projects to provide and support appropriate community sport and leisure facilities.
- Ensuring that Council-owned sport and leisure facilities are well-managed and well-run.
- Increasing the quality and quantity of sporting opportunities, activities and facilities provided by public, private and voluntary sector organisations.
- Improving and widening access to these opportunities and facilities by addressing the reasons why people can't or won't take part.
- Acting as a source of advice and information for local clubs, volunteers, organisations, charities, schools and the like.
- Providing guidance on project planning, development opportunities and application guidance for various national and regional grant aid schemes.
- Promoting good practice in play provision and the development of new and existing facilities.
- Forming and extending effective relationships with a wide range of partners to deliver our aims and objectives.
- Championing the role of sport & leisure in leading a healthy lifestyle.
