Shaping Futures - Sustainable Community Strategy

Shaping Futures sets out a shared 10-year vision for West Oxfordshire, and it reflects what local people have told us is important to them and to the district. It has been produced by the West Oxfordshire Strategic Partnership (WOSP).

Shaping Futures was launched in November 2008, following a wide range of evidence gathering and consultation. A full attendance list and copies of the presentations from the launch event can be found in the "File Downloads" section on the right-hand side of this page, along with a summary of the final consultation and West Oxfordshire Futures, a paper that uses a wide range of local, regional and national information to highlight the future challenges West Oxfordshire will face.

Our vision - West Oxfordshire: one of the best places to live, work and visit.

Shaping Futures sets out how organisations in West Oxfordshire will work together to achieve identified common aims. It provides our future hopes for West Oxfordshire as a place, identifies priorities we can work on together and sets out how we will tackle some of the more difficult issues. It concentrates on those areas where we can work together to really add value and make a difference.

Delivering Shaping Futures

We have now agreed a one year Delivery Plan for 2009 and work has begun to achieve the actions and targets it contains. The Plan does not include everything happening across West Oxfordshire, and it certainly does not mean that those organisations within the plan are the only ones with a role to play. We are very keen to hear about any projects or programmes that are already planned or underway, any ideas for new projects not in the Delivery Plan, or from anyone who would like to help us achieve the aims of Shaping Futures by getting involved in WOSP.

Shaping Futures helps to inform the future planning of the area, as set out in the Local Development Framework (LDF). The close link between Shaping Futures and the LDF will make sure community and spatial planning in the district is well coordinated in the future.

Oxfordshire 2030

Shaping Futures also reflects the main aims for the district that are outlined in Oxfordshire 2030, the Sustainable Community Strategy for the county prepared by the Oxfordshire Partnership.
