Emergency Planning
As a local authority it is the role of West Oxfordshire District Council to support the emergency services in the case of a major incident. The Emergency Planning Team are on call 24 hours and will coordinate the Council's response during a major incident.

What is a major incident/emergency?
- Natural disasters such as floods and storms
- Pollution i.e. spillages, radioactive substances, toxic gases
- War or terrorism
- Any incident which is a threat to the welfare of the community
The Emergency Plan
The Council has an Emergency Plan in order to deliver services during a major incident. The plan contains details of actions to be taken following a request for assistance by the emergency services or Oxfordshire County Council. The following are contained in the plan:
- Emergency call out list
- Flood Plan
- Severe Weather Warnings
- District Snow Plan
- Chemical/Biological Incident Plan
- Rest Centre Plan
- Media Plan

Services provided by the council
In the case of a major incident it is the responsibility of the Council to provide the following:
- Accommodation - this can include rest centres and accommodation for members of the community who may have been evacuated i.e. during a flood.
- Environmental Services - This can vary from supplying sandbags in the case of a flood, to the collection of waste and assistance when dealing with pollution.
- Building Services - assisting the Emergency Services working near buildings that may have been damaged or are unsafe as a result of a major incident.
- Media Handling - giving appropriate information to the media in the event of a major incident.
