Housing and Support for Older PeopleSHELTERED HOUSING Sheltered Housing allows many people who may need extra support to continue to live independently. It is designed for people who are of retirement age but younger persons may be considered if they have a need for the support provided, it is not the same as residential care or nursing homes. People in sheltered housing can enjoy their independence, with the added security of knowing that help is available if and when they need it. There are a number of sheltered schemes in the District, some are in the towns of Witney, Carterton and Chipping Norton and others within village communities. Priority is given to rehousing persons aged 60 or over either living in West Oxfordshire or wanting to come to this area for support from close relatives but applications from younger people who need this type of accommodation with support will also be considered. Applicants need to be registered on the Councils Waiting List. To apply you should complete an application form 'Application for accommodation in West Oxfordshire', which you can request from the Publications section of the site or by contacting Housing Services. You should indicate on the application form whether you wish to rent or buy on a shared ownership basis.
