Support for the Arts Grant

This grant provides support to local groups in the development of arts opportunities within West Oxfordshire.

Amounts awarded

Grants awarded are between £100 and £1,500.

Deadline for applications

The deadline for applications is 15th February each year. Application forms must arrive at the Council's Woodgreen offices in Witney by 5pm.

Criteria

  • This grant is to support organisations and groups, not individuals.
  • Application is open to organisations involved in the arts.
  • Any applicant organisation/group must have either a signed constitution, club rules or identified aims and objectives which are in line with the Council's policy.
  • Applicants must have a bank/building society account in the name of the organisation.
  • The project must take place in West Oxfordshire or demonstrate considerable benefit to the people of West Oxfordshire.
  • Emphasis is given to applications which: offer opportunities to the wider community; develop the scope of the organisation; have wider artistic significance; are innovatory; can demonstrate value for money.
  • Grants made are valid for up to 12 months from the date of the award.
  • Where West Oxfordshire District Council is the main funder of a project which results in a public exhibition, we expect the exhibition to take place in the district in the first instance.
  • Applicants will need to demonstrate a financial need for grant funding from West Oxfordshire District Council.
  • The applicant organisation must demonstrate that any public presentation of work is to be made accessible to all sectors of the community.

To support a new singing group in Witney for older people.

Anjali Dance Company - £1,000
To offer dance classes for young people with learning disabilities in Witney.

Art in Woodstock - £250
To support the community and education aspects of Art in Woodstock 2009.

Ascott under Wychwood Pre-School - £320
To support the early years dance club.

Bampton Classical Opera - £650
Towards the 2nd UK production of the opera "La Pescatrici" by Haydn and a further concert in Bampton.

Burford Festival - £375
To support aspects of the 2009 Festival.

Burford Orchestra - £375
To help with the annual activities of this community orchestra in Witney.

Buttercross Art Society - £100
To support the set up costs and programme of this new art society for Witney.

Buttercross Quilters Witney - £100
Towards the activities of this local quilting craft group.

Charlbury Worldsong (Voices Unlimited) - £300
Towards world music concerts in Charlbury.

Cotswold Children's Choir - £800
To support the performance and learning activities of this highly acclaimed local children's choir.

Create - £500
To run a photography project with swimmers at the Lido in Chipping Norton.

Dramascope Productions - £600
To stage the original musical "Pantomime" with young people at the Corn Exchange, Witney.

Eynsham Arts Group - £100
Towards the activities of this local arts group.

Eynsham Choral Society - £100
To support a programme of choral activities.

Finstock Community Projects - £100
To support arts activities as part of the annual August weekend festival.

High Street Methodist Church (adhoc group) - £100
To support two concerts in Witney by the Unterhaching Gospel Choir.

Kingham Choral Society - £100
To help this choir to continue to practice and perform in the villages around Kingham.

Lower Windrush Choral Society - £100
Towards the running costs of a choir committed to serving the communities of the Lower Windrush.

Lunchtime Recitals - £380
Towards this series of eight free lunchtime recitals in Witney.

New Beaconsfield Hall, Shipton under Wychwood - £900
To support the development of this music project for young people.

OVADA (Oxfordshire Visual Arts Development Agency) - £375
Towards a bid to Arts Council England for an exhibition and a training event in the district.

Oxford Contemporary Music (OCM) - £225
Towards a music and nature project in Chimney, Aston and Bampton.

Riverside Festival - £500
To support this free open air music festival in Charlbury.

Shed Theatre - £1000
To support the activities of this youth theatre in Charlbury.

West Oxon Woodturning Association - £150
To help purchase some mobile equipment to help new members gain skills.

Witney and District Museum - £100
Towards the purchase of display stands for the gallery.

Witney Music Society - £100
To support this programme of winter concerts in Witney.

Woodstock Art Group - £100
To support the creative activities of this art group.

Woodstock Literature Society - £250
To support this literature society to provide a year-long programme.
