Community Safety
OUR MISSION: To make West Oxfordshire a safer place to live, work and visit.
OUR COMMITMENT: The Partnership is committed to reducing crime, disorder and fear among our communities, and to make offenders accountable.
WHAT IS THE PARTNERSHIP?
The term 'Community Safety' has been widely used since the Crime & Disorder Act of 1998. Following this Act, the West Oxfordshire Community Safety Partnership was formed. Although crime reduction is associated with the Police, it is recognised that other agencies have an important role to play.
The Partnership is made up of the following agencies:
WHAT DO WE DO?
The Partnership carries out:
- An audit of crime and disorder every three years. The last Audit was produced in April 2005;
- Consultations with the community;
- A multi-agency three year Community Safety Strategy. The current one is for 2005-2008.
OUR AIMS:
- Reduce recorded crime by 11% by 2008 - that's 303 fewer offences;
- Maintain the low level of fear of crime for people walking alone during the day by 2008.
OUR PRIORITIES:
We work in partnership with our communities to tackle:
- Acquisitive crime, including burglary and vehicle crime;
- Domestic violence and support services;
- Substance misuse, including drug and alcohol treatment services and licensing;
- Supportive communities, including hate crime and young peoples services;
- Safe communities, including road safety;
- Anti-social behaviour, including managing town centre disorder and anti-social behaviour in rural communities.
