Community and voluntary groups

There are many ways that you can become an active member of your community and play an important role helping to improve your local area.

Volunteer Link-Up
Voluntary organisations are always keen to recruit new volunteers and it can be a good way to learn new skills, meet new people and give something back to your local community. Volunteer Link-Up helps match volunteers with those in need of help and currently supports around 700 local residents. We are working with them to make it easier for people to volunteer.

Community Safety
There are several Watch Schemes operating in West Oxfordshire which include Neighbourhood, Country and Pub Watch. Members receive crime alerts through the Thames Valley Community Messaging System. Any residents can sign up for free to become a member.

Environmental Community Groups
Here you will find details of local environmental groups. If you are a member of a group working to improve your local environment we'd like to hear from you so we can your details.

Green Gym Projects
There are a number of Green Gym groups set up across West Oxfordshire. They offer communities and individuals a range of regular outdoor activities which give people the chance to help improve their local environment. Work can include dry stone walling, clearing footpaths and woodland management.

Community Action Groups (CAGs)
CAGs work to increase awareness of waste issues and the ways to reduce the amount of resources that are thrown away. The groups aim to empower local residents to be better stewards of natural resources.

Lions Clubs
Lions are groups of service-minded men and women who are interested in doing volunteer work to improve their communities. Each Club is independent as to how it is run and how funds are raised and distributed. Please contact your local group for more information:
Witney Lions Club

Rotary Clubs
Rotary Clubs focus on supporting community projects and helping the young and the elderly. They give help and advice to all those in need, either directly or through local charitable organisations. Each club selects causes it wishes to support each year. To find your local group use The Rotary Club locator.

Oxnet
Oxnet provides an online service for the local voluntary and community sector in Oxfordshire including information on funding, training and much more.

Alternatively, if you have a bright idea for a community project but don't know where to start, or if you belong to a group that needs some guidance, the information points in Witney and Chipping Norton may be able to help. Here you will find a variety of resources, including a computer (with software to assist with identifying funding sources) and small library of books, to help you work out what practical steps you need to take.

A volunteer assistant is on hand to introduce the computer and 'funderfinder' software, and to help you find the information you need.

Information points are located at:
Witney: West Oxfordshire CAB, The Old Print House, Marlborough Lane. Witney OX28 6DY
Every Tuesday, 1.30-4.30pm (by appointment).

Chipping Norton: ACE Childrens Centre, Burford Road, Chipping Norton
First Friday of each month, 10am to 1pm (by appointment)

For an appointment email: funding@ocva.org.uk or call OCVA on 01865 251946 and ask to speak to the Development Team or more information visit: www.oxnet.org.uk
