What's happening in my neighbourhood?

Each month the Neighbourhood Specialist Officer delivers a report on what has been happening in the area.

May 2012

Neighbourhood Officer PC Richard Conner provides this month's update:
"The team attended two parish council annual meetings this month and gave good news for both. Reported crime in North Leigh over the last year has fallen by 30% and criminal damage is 63% lower. In Northmoor crime has fallen by 7% with no incidents of criminal damage reported.

"We are asking for all residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious vehicles after a number of metal thefts in the area this month. Metal equipment was stolen from Siemens in Eynsham and there was an attempt theft from Hire and Sales in Freeland Road. We have also had metal items stolen from private properties; the police are working closely with the district council enforcement officers and regularly checking scrap metal merchants and stopping suspicious vehicles. Please phone in if you feel you can help.

"PCSO Natalie Waller checked two people in a vehicle on Oakfield Industrial Estate this month which led to a street caution for cannabis possession.

"The team helped to organise a couple of events this month, the first was Pimp Your Bike which was held in the Easter holidays at Eynsham youth club. Local youngsters came along to rebuild and customize their bikes. There was also a Mirror Mirror event where old clothing was redesigned and updated. Both events were a great success with Neighbourhood Action Group members, the Fire Service, the Oxfordshire Youth Arts Project, Cottsway Housing and the Police all getting involved.

"We also took the mobile police station along to Linear Fisheries in Stanton Harcourt as part of their open day to give advice on security and marking of equipment.

"We had a couple of thefts from vehicles in Stanton Harcourt; two local youths have been spoken to and enquiries are ongoing.

"There was a distraction burglary in Sutton where a man knocked on the door and stated he had lost his dog. He managed to get the occupant to look in the back garden and while they were doing this another man stole items from the property. A man has since been arrested. Please keep an eye on elderly neighbours and if someone comes to your door and you do not know who they are, do not let them in.

"There was a burglary at North Leigh football club on Saturday 21 April where a large amount of mindless damage was caused. If you know anything about this please to the team on the non-emergency 101 number."
