Evidence you will need to send

When you make an application for Local Housing Allowance we will not be able to process your application without certain evidence being provided.

You must provide evidence from each category that is relevant to your application and evidence must be original copies. We will also need to see the same evidence for any other adults in your household.

Evidence of National Insurance Number

All new applications must provide evidence of their National Insurance Number. This could be in the form of;

  • National Insurance Number Card
  • Pay Slips
  • Letter from the Social Security Office
  • Letter from HMRC

Evidence of Identity

All new applicants must provide evidence of their identity. We will need to see 2 documents to confirm your identity. These could be;

  • Birth certificate
  • Marriage certificate
  • Medical card
  • Driving license
  • UK residence permit
  • EEC Residence card
  • Recent gas bill
  • Recent electricity bill

Evidence of Capital, Savings and Investments

This set of evidence must show at least the previous 2 months;

  •  Bank, building society or post office books
  •  Full bank statements
  • Certificates for premium bonds
  • National savings certificate
  • ISAs, Stocks, shares and unit trusts
  • Evidence of any interest or dividends you get on any investments

We will need to see this evidence for any children in your household as well.

Evidence of earnings

If you are paid weekly

  • Your last 5 pay slips

If you are paid 2 weekly

  • Your last 3 pay slips

If you are paid monthly

  • Your last 2 pay slips

If you are unable to provide these details you can download our Employer's certificate of earnings form from the download section.

If you are self-employed

  •  Your accounts for the previous financial years

Evidence of any other income

If you are receiving any other income we will need to see evidence, for example;

  • Any child maintenance awarded by a court
  • Any money you are receiving for board or lodgings
  • Pension slips from a former employer

Evidence of benefits, allowances or pensions

If you get any other benefits, allowances or receiving a pension we will need to see evidence of the amount you are receiving. This could be in the form of;

  • Current award letters
  • Letters from the DWP

Evidence private rent or tenancy

  •  This could be;
  • Your rent book
  • Recent rent receipts
  • Your tenancy agreements
  • A letter from your landlord 

Evidence of money paid out

We will need to see evidence of money paid out such as;

  • Student Loan grant letters
  • Receipts or agreements for registered child care costs

Please Remember we must receive original documents as photocopies will not be accepted. You can bring original documents to our town centre shop in Witney or The Guildhall in Chipping Norton or send them to us by post.  Original documents received by post will be returned to you, normally the day we receive them.
