Income and Capital

During the calculation process of your application, your income and capital are used to calculate how much help you could qualify for.

If you have more than £16,000 in savings you will not be entitled to receive help with your rent or council tax.

Capital is not considered to just be amounts you have in savings, it also includes

  • land and property you own other than your home
  • Stocks
  • Shares
  • Bonds
  • Banks and Building Society Accounts
When you make an application you must provide full details of all your income and savings to support your claim. For more information about what you will need to send please see our Evidence you will need to send page.
