Outdoor Recreation & Play Facilities Grant

Grants are available to Town/Parish Councils, Playing Field Committees or Play Area Management Groups who are formally constituted to assist with the provision of outdoor recreation and play facilities within their community.

Amounts awarded

Grants will be awarded up to a maximum of 50% of the cost of purchase, installation and a post installation inspection. This will be limited to a maximum grant of £20,000 per parish in any one year.

Deadline for applications

Grants are considered by West Oxfordshire District Council Members on a quarterly basis. Deadlines for applications are as follows:

  • Monday 5th May 2008
  • Monday 18th August 2008
  • Monday 3rd November 2008
  • Monday 9th February 2009.

Criteria

  • Grant applications will only be accepted from organisations as listed above.
  • Grants will only be awarded to projects where there is free public access to the site.
  • Grant aid will be considered for the provision of new equipment, safety surfacing, fencing/gates, access paths (DDA compliable), and street furniture (litter bins, seats, lights and signage where appropriate) associated with the application. 
  • Repairs, redecoration and routine maintenance costs to the equipment, safety surface and site (i.e. general wear and tear) are not eligible.   
  • Consultation must have been undertaken with local people in developing the project.
  • The Parish/Town Council must agree to make a specified contribution towards the project cost before the District Council will consider an application.
  • Each application should give evidence of the match funding available for the schemes completion and indicate the time-scales involved in constructing the upgraded/new play area.
  • Applicants will need to demonstrate a financial need for grant funding from West Oxfordshire District Council.
  • Applicant organisations will be required to provide copies of supporting documentation as specified.
  • The design of each scheme/piece of equipment installed should comply with the relevant standard at the highest level.
  • Each scheme will, as part of the process, include a post installation inspection within the costings, to be undertaken by a RPII (Register of Play Inspectors International) qualified independent inspector.
  • Applications must demonstrate significant community benefit.
  • Projects must take place within West Oxfordshire and be of benefit primarily to residents of the District.
