Eligibility for a bus pass

In summary, you will qualify for a free bus pass if you are a permanent resident of West Oxfordshire and:

are over 60 years old and of eligible age (see below)
are severely sight impaired or sight impaired; or
are severely or profoundly deaf; or
are without speech; or
have a disability or have suffered an injury, which has a substantial and long-term adverse impact on walking ability; or
do not have arms or have long term loss of the use of both arms; or
have a learning disability since childhood, a reduced ability to understand new or complex information, difficulty in learning new skills, unable to cope independently; or
have been refused a driving licence on medical grounds under the Road Traffic Acts; or

A combined disabled and companions pass is available to any disabled groups who cannot travel independently because of serious disability.

Age of eligibility

The Government changed the age of eligibility for concessionary travel in April 2010. The age of eligibility will now rise gradually from 60 to 65 over the next 10 years, in line with the changes to the state pension age for women.

As the changes are being introduced in stages, the date you will become eligible for concessionary travel will depend on the month you were born. All those born in 1950 are now eligible. If you were born after 5th April 1955, you will not be eligible for a pass until you turn 65.
