November 2008 Neighbourhood Specialist Officer PC Duncan Johnson provides this month's update for the Witney area: "October has yet again been a busy month for the neighbourhood policing team. "Anti-social behaviour by some of our young residents is still a problem, but several youngsters have signed Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) that lay down certain rules that they must adhere to. "A number of the team have been involved in underage test purchasing operations, which unfortunately were disappointing because some of the licensed premises sold alcohol to our under 18s. These were dealt with by issuing fixed penalty notices and warnings. "On Friday 24 October the team, along with other officers across West Oxfordshire, were involved in Operation Judicious to target underage drinking and anti-social behaviour. Many of you will remember the large seizures we made in the first operation last October so I am pleased to report that on this occasion we found no alcohol to seize. "On Thursday 30 October PCSOs Emma Andrews, Tracy Waller and MC Tutty held a bicycle security event in the Woolgate Centre in Witney. Local youngsters were able to get their bikes security marked to enable easy identification if stolen. Free items were also handed out including locks, cycle helmets and lights. Advice was offered on road safety and the event proved a huge success. "On Friday 31 October the team spent the evening patrolling housing estates across the town to try and dissuade youngsters from causing alarm to residents on Halloween. Flour and eggs were seized. Ducklington "Overnight on 13-14 October in Lovell Close, offenders stole a set of number plates from a resident's car. Minster Lovell "Overnight on 11/12 October garden tools were stolen from a house in the village. Any witnesses should contact us on 0845 8 505 505. Leafield "Between Wednesday 1 and Thursday 9 October thieves stole lead from the roof of the village school. If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the school grounds during this time or have any information on this incident please contact us. Crawley "On Thursday 2 October between 3pm and 4pm, a sat nav was stolen from a car parked in the Crawley Mill Industrial Estate. Can we please remind residents not to leave any valuables on show. Help us to deter the opportunist thief! "Bobby Swap cards are currently being rolled out across the district following a successful trial in Carterton. Any 11 year olds and younger who interact with a member of the team could find themselves the owner of a Bobby Swap card! Each officer has their own card which contains information about themselves and their crime-fighting top tip. You can collect them and swap doubles with your friends." If you wish to contact the neighbourhood team please contact us on 0845 8 505 505, or email: witneyneighbourhood@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk . In an emergency, please call 999." |
