Flying the flag for the Commonwealth

Our Council took part in the 2017 Commonwealth Day celebrations by raising the Commonwealth flag today at its offices in Woodgreen, Witney.

After raising the flag, Chairman Cllr Norman MacRae read out a special message of good wishes, sent from The Commonwealth Secretary General.

After reading the Commonwealth Secretary General’s message, Cllr Norman MacRae said, “Raising the flag publicly demonstrates our commitment to the Commonwealth and our appreciation for the values it upholds, the opportunities offered for friendship and cooperation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.”

More than 950 flags are being raised across Commonwealth countries, including in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man. The day is an opportunity to promote understanding about global issues, international co-operation and the work of the Commonwealth’s organisations, which aim to improve the lives of its citizens.
