Community Planning

Communities now have great opportunities to say how they develop and address issues through plans they develop themselves.  There are two main types:

  • Community Led Plans, and
  • Neighbourhood Plans

Community Led Plans

These useful for considering the community as a whole and looking at a range of issues such as economic, environmental and social.  For more information see the Community Led Plans page.

Neighbourhood Plans

These are more focussed on land use and development issues, and if adopted, become part of the formal planning policy.  For more information see the Neighbourhood Plans page.

It is entirely possible for a community to undertake or combine both types of plan to give a really rounded vision for the community's future.

Help to decide which plan you need

The Which Plan? Decision Diagram will help communities decide which type of plan or plans are most appropriate for them.

For further advice on which plan is most appropriate for your community, please contact Astrid Harvey or call 01993 861420.

Assets of Community Value

The Localism Act 2011 has introduced a new Community Right (referred to as the Community Right to Bid) which allows Town and Parish Councils and defined community groups to ask the Council to list certain assets as being of community value.

The purpose of the Community Right to Bid is to assist local community groups to preserve buildings or land which are of importance to their community's social well-being. The Right to Bid provision does this through regulating that when a listed asset comes up for sale there is a delay in the sale process. This delay should give an increased chance for the local community to bid to buy the asset.

Please see the Assets of Community Value Guidance Notes and Nomination Form for more details.  A set of Assets of Community Value Guidance Notes for Property Owners is also available.

The List of Assets of Community Value that have been approved is available to download.
